By Friday Idachaba, Lokoja

Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed two separate auto crashes on Monday which claimed one life and left six persons with various degrees of injury.

Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, the state Sector Commander, who confirmed the incident, said that the first was a collision between a Tricycle (Keke-NAPEP) and a commercial motorcycle “Okada”.

He said that as a result of the collision, the Okadaman was flung in front of an oncoming articulated vehicle, which instantly crushed him to death within the Lokoja metropolis.

Dawulung described as “unfortunate”, the way and manner the accident happened leaving no little chance for the deceased to escape the oncoming truck when he fell off his motorcycle.

The Sector Commander decried the reckless attitude of both tricycle and motorcycle riders on the roads and even the highways adding that their recklessness had caused untimely deaths and injury to many innocent people.

“Most times you see them competing on the roads for no just cause but only to put their lives and those of their passengers at risk.

“The result of such bad road usage has always been auto crashes, jeopardizing lives”, the commander said.

Dawulung disclosed that the body of the Okadaman had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja morgue.

The Sector Commander commiserated with the family of the victim and advised motorcyclists to adhere to stipulated speed limits, avoid contests with other vehicles.

He also enjoined them to always observe safety protocols such as the use of helmets in order to eradicate or minimise auto crashes.

Dawulung said that six persons escaped death but sustained various degrees of injury when their vehicle lost control and somersaulted into the bush at Banda between Koton-Karfe and Lokoja.

He said that the accident happened at Navy base checking point, Banda, on Abuja-Koton-Karfe-Lokoja road on Monday evening as a result of speeding.

“My officers, who were at hand shortly after the incident, rushed the victims to the hospital for medical treatment,” he said.
