Everton celebrated Alex Iwobi’s impressive display after providing two assists as the Super Eagles beat Liberia 2-0, in their Group C opener of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers on Friday.
First half brace from Kelechi Iheanacho thanks to Iwobi’s assists, secured the win for Gernot Rohr’s side.
He already has one assist in the Premier League after setting up Everton’s second goal, in their 3-1 home win against Southampton on matchday one.
After a five-star display, the former Arsenal forward was replaced with six minutes left in the game.
He was then named Most Valuable Player while two-goal hero Iheanacho was named Man of the Match.
Reacting to Iwobi’s Performance, Everton wrote on Twitter: “Another two assists for the in-form @alexiwobi, as he was named MVP in @NGSuperEagles’ 2-0 #WCQ win over Liberia.”
The Eagles will face Cape Verde on Tuesday on matchday two of the qualifiers.
Unfortunately, Iwobi alongside other UK-based Eagles stars will not make the trip due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The Eagles are top in Group C, and are two points ahead of Cape Verde and Central Africa Republic who have a point each.
