Four Royal Malaysian Air Force officers died in a shooting incident at their camp in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak this morning.

Sarawak police commissioner Aidi Ismail told reporters today that one of them went on a shooting rampage after taking firearms from the guard station at the Handau Squadron 330 camp. Identified as Ho Swee Boon, the shooter fired the weapon at three colleagues before taking his own life.

“The suspect had even asked them whether they wanted to live or die,” Aidi said, adding that one of the victims, Sharif Mohd Siddiq Al-Attas Wan Sabli from Kuching, had tried to calm Ho down but to no avail. “Sharif tried to calm him down, but Ho fired a shot that hit Sharif in the stomach, prompting the others to run for safety.”

The air force confirmed that the shooting happened at 7:15am at its Kota Samarahan unit and that an investigation was underway.

Three, including Ho, died at the camp while the fourth person was rushed to the Kota Samarahan Heart Centre with critical injuries and subsequently pronounced dead at 9.15am.

Ho had served in the air force for 10 years. It is understood that he was previously stationed at the base in Kuantan. The rest of the deceased were identified as Mohamad Ehsan Sehamat from Asajaya and Luk Nesly anak Nabau from Sibu, Sarawak.

Aidi also said the incident had been classified as a murder case, with the probe being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
