A 7-year-old girl is making headlines for the multiple ways she is expressing her patriotism ahead of Malaysia’s Independence Day tomorrow, including using sand art.

Through online classes with her teacher, Lee Xue Ying has been making Independence Day-themed crafts and costumes, including an impressive headdress that featured a design of the iconic Petronas twin towers, and of course, Malaysia’s national flag.

The Mun Choong Chinese Primary School student also filmed herself singing the Setia song decked out in Malaysia’s trademark blue, red and yellow, as well as her custom-made twin tower headdress.

She recently uploaded a video of herself reciting the Tanah Air (Homeland) poem by Malaysian poet Usman Awang while showing off her sand art.

According to this feisty and talented young artist, children need to learn to love their country from young all-year-round and not just on Independence Day. Her father also told China Press that it was a parent’s duty to instill a sense of patriotism in children and help them grow their love for their hometown. Xue Ying’s mother said that she hopes her children will cultivate patriotism from a young age and continue to love and cherish the peace in the country.
