Comoros will have to play their Round of 16 game against the host nation, Cameroon at the African Cup of Nations ( AFCON) with an outfield player in goal.

Ali Ahmanda

The team’s goalkeeper, Ali Ahmanda tested negative after a series of tests today ( Monday, January 24th, 2022). According to a spokesman from the Confederation of African Football ( CAF), any player that tests positive for the virus must be in isolation for five days before taking another PCR test 48 hours before the game. This means midfielder, Yacine Bourhane and Ahmanda will not be allowed into the stadium for the game against Cameroon.

The Comoros Football Federation on Saturday confirmed that Ahmanda was among several player that testes positive for the virus following the recent outbreak in the team’s camp. CAF’s rule before the tournament states that if team has eleven fit players, even if there is no recognised goalkeeper, the game must be played.

Comoros reached the competition’s Round of 16, following an impressive victory in their last group game against the Black Stars of Ghana.
