Nigeria’s Super Falcons started the maiden Aisha Buhari Cup on a sound note with a 2-0 victory over Mali at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.
A brace from Gift Monday of FC Robo Queens made the difference for Nigeria in the dying minutes of the match. Determined played first nodded home the first goal before completing the rout with the second goal.
The Nigeria team are billed to face South Africa in the second game and they are expected to improve from the Mali experience.
Speaking after the match, Falcons captain Azizat Oshoala said the team will do everything possible to make the country proud in the tournament.
She said the team will surely improve with every game and nothing will stop them from winning the tournament.
