Local league champions, Akwa United Football Club players and officials went on an all-night party after their victory on Sunday.
The team subdued Mountain of Fire and Miracles Football Club in their last duel 5-2 to lift the trophy for the first time in 25 years.
The victorious squad who embarked on a trophy parade at Uyo on Monday were completely overwhelmed for making a great impact in the NPFL season.
Speaking about their heart-warming victory, One of Akwa United’s players, Gbadebo Samson, said that they knew that they were capable of lifting the trophy from the start of the league in the country.
“It was our desire to win the league and we worked very hard for it with determination and God’s support. I am very proud of my teammates and the entire technical crew for their efforts on this victory,” Samson said.
With this victory, Akwa United players are expecting great rewards from the state government.
