…My hands are clean, Kyari cries out, says he met him 2yrs ago with no financial benefit
UNITED States District Court for the Central District of California has issued a warrant of arrest for Nigeria’s Police Commissioner, Abba Kyari. According to the court papers, Justice Otis Wright ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, to track down, arrest and detain Mr. Kyari and subsequently produce him in the US court to explain his role in a multi-million dollar fraud perpetrated by Ramon Abbas, better known as ‘Hushpuppi.’ It would be recalled that Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai in June last year. In a twist of guilt, he pleaded guilty to the fraud allegations in the US this week. Fingering Kyari in his ordeal, Hushpuppi said he bribed Kyari in a $1.1milion deal.
He said he asked Kyari to arrest and jail a rival fraudster named Kelly Chibuzor Vincent after both were locked in a dispute over how to share the $1.1 million loot received from the Qatari businessperson. While the FBI noted that Abbas and Kyari have been friends and were both involved in a conspiracy to launder money, Kyari was also indicted of receiving bribes from Hushpuppi to arrest a rival member of the syndicate in Nigeria. It was also gathered that American prosecutors first sought a court warrant to arrest Mr. Kyari on February 12, 2021, and later on April 29, 2021. Judge Wright’s permission for the FBI to arrest Mr. Kyari and hold him in US custody was unsealed on July 26. Meanwhile, CP Kyari in a hurried statement denied allegations of conspiracy with Hushpuppi, saying he only met him two years ago and did not benefit financially from the fraudster.
“Friends, Abbas who we later came to know as Hushpuppi called our office about two years ago that somebody in Nigeria seriously threatened to kill his family here in Nigeria and he sent the person’s phone number and pleaded we take action before the person attacks his family. “We traced and arrested the suspect and after investigations, we discovered there wasn’t an actual threat to anyone’s life and they are long-time friends who have money issues between them hence we released the suspect on bail to go and he was not taken to any jail.
“Nobody demanded a kobo from Abbas Hushpuppi. Our focus was to save people’s lives that were purported to have been threatened. “For those who are celebrating that this is an indictment on us and mentioning some fictitious Big Money, They will be disappointed once again as our hands are clean and our record of Service for two decades is open for everybody to see. “They will continue seeing us serving our fatherland and we will continue responding to all distress calls from all Nigerians provided they are life-threatening. “For Good Nigerians who appreciate our Service, please don’t worry as our hands are clean and they should please not respond to those celebrating and creating many false narratives without any evidence. We are used to such types of people and false newsmakers and distributors,” he posted on his Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered an internal investigation into the allegations by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, against DCP Abba Kyari. In a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, yesterday, he said “the Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other international partners. “Further developments on this case will be communicated to members of the public accordingly.”
