The folks behind one of Bangkok’s most popular after-dark flea markets said Monday that rumors of its demise were untrue.

Reached for comment following reports that the Train Night Market Ratchada, aka Talad Rot Fai, had closed down for good due to the pandemic, a member of its management team said the market’s closure was only temporary and it would reopen as soon as conditions allowed.

“We had to close because of the situation right now, and we will announce later when we will reopen,” a market administrator, who declined to give her name, said by phone today.

The market, a popular destination for foreign tourists before the pandemic hit, has been shut on order of City Hall since the third-wave outbreak hit the capital in April.

Asked how or why a number of publications – local and international – who reported its permanent closure got it, the woman said she had no idea.
