While a new five-star hotel landing in Soi Langsuan can’t welcome its first guests due to the pandemic, its rooftop bar couldn’t wait any longer – it knows Bangkok’s need for evening escapes with a view.
Atop the Kimpton Maa-lai Bangkok – slated to open next month – perch chill vibes and the tropically lush space of Bar Yard, evoking the back yard-for-all feel it’s aiming for. The venue has been the talk of the town of late for its great views of the city, serious cocktails and delicious grilled Tex-Mex dishes.
From the hotel lobby, patrons are shot up to the 40th floor to savor al fresco dining and drinking with a 180-degree view of skyscrapers blending with the greenery of Lumphini Park.
Its array of food bites focus on Mexican adaptations and barbecue vittles such as Hua Hin Fresh Caught Calamari (THB270), Smoked Chicken Quesadillas (THB290) and BBQ Brisket & Ribs Platter, the last of which can be shared by four (THB690).
Up to 27 varieties of pineapple cultivated nationwide are used to craft refreshing boozy drinks – the uniquely sweet Phuket pineapple shines in The Queen’s Group Pineapple (THB310), tequila tipple blended with apple brandy, lime and pomelo. A sweet and zesty Sriracha pineapple is matched with Cuban rum and chili liquor for the spicy, tangy The Cayenne Group Pineapple (THB320) which comes served in an entire pineapple.
Those who want to activate party mode early can take a shortcut via the bartender-recommended “super strong drink” that is Navy Grog (THB310). Don’t underestimate this classic Donn the Beachcomber-inspired recipe, which comes with a scoop of crushed ice and a timeless paper parasol. With its trio of rums, it proves to be the punchiest drink you can find at the bar.
Bar Yard opens 6pm to midnight on the 40th floor of the Kimpton Maa-lai Bangkok hotel in the Velaa Sindhorn development on Soi Langsuan 2, located about 700 meters from BTS Chit Lom.
