President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to declare open the maiden edition of Progressives Youths Congress, on June 21, 2021, while Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would deliver a keynote address, Nigerian Pilot has gathered.
Representative of the youths in the APC caretaker committee, Barr. Ismail Ahmed, disclosed this Wednesday at a press conference at the national secretariat of the party.
Barr. Ahmed reiterated that the essence of the conference was to deepen the country’s democratic process through youth inclusion and participation in politics and governance, adding that youth, vision, energy and skill were essential to moving the country forward.
He said that Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, would also attend the conference.
Ahmed added that President Buhari approved the conference in line with his commitment to deepen the country’s democratic process through youth inclusion.
“President Buhari has graciously accepted to speak at the maiden APC Progressives Youth Conference and declare it open,” he said.
The youth leader further added that the conference, which was the first of its kind since the inception of the APC administration, “seeks to restate the progressive values of the party and give hope”.
He said that it was also to inspire a new generation to the mainstream of the party towards a surer political future for it and the country generally.
Ahmed added that the conference, which would be held in Abuja, would be attended by progressive youth delegates from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“To participate in the conference, youths are encouraged to log on to the official website of the conference www.pyc21.ng and register.
“The website goes live today, June 9 and registration is opened till Saturday June 19,’’ he said.
Ahmed added that five youth representatives from each state of the federation would be given the opportunity to be in attendance while others would join through zoom.
He, however, explained that the Federal Government did not ban Twitter, contrary to speculations about the issue in the public
The youth leader said that the government only suspended Twitter’s operations in the country temporarily.
He noted that a lot of other social media platforms were still in operation, including Facebook and WhatsApp among others.
