Cavani has been given permission to miss the start of United ‘s season, having been granted an extended break.

The 34-year-old agreed to a one-year contract extension in May after netting 17 goals in 39 appearances in his first season for the club.

Cavani was a late signing last summer and due to coronavirus quarantine rules hadn’t been back to Uruguay for two years.

Therefore, when discussing his new deal, extended leave was something that the striker pushed for, with the club happy to oblige.
