The Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, Dr.  Oyebanji Filani, has revealed that three persons have died of Covid-19 in the state within the last two weeks.
The state had also taken delivery of 46,000 doses of Moderna RNA Vaccines to be administered on the residents to strengthen their antibody against Covid-19, warning that those who had taken the first or second dose of Astrazeneca Vaccines shouldn’t represent themselves for the present one.
Giving the startling disclosure in Ado Ekiti yesterday, Filani disclosed that the recent fatality cases involved two 75 -year old men and a relatively young woman of 45.
Speaking about the upscaling of testing capacity across the 16 local governments, Filani said a total of 3,000 persons have been tested in the month of August with 342 confirmed cases recorded out of which 71 have been treated and discharged.
“Three persons have died of Covid-19 within the last two weeks. Two were old men above 75 years and the third one was a relatively young lady of 45. And these were people who presented themselves late for treatments.
“We are getting more cases in Ekiti because we are improving on our testing capacity and there is nothing to worry about. As of now,  12 states still have a higher positivity rate than Ekiti.
“The state has created about 845 testing centers with about 3,000 Rapid diagnostic kids being made available to our general hospitals and private healthcare facilities in the 16 local government areas of the state.
“We also have emergency operation centers across the Local Governments and their activities are synchronized , so that we can know what exactly are happening in those Local Governments”.
He added further: “Let me also say that We have received the Moderna RNA vaccines. We got 46,000 doses and only those who have not collected any vaccine before can take out of these doses.
“These vaccines are safe and very efficient. Let me point out that out of 183 confirmed cases we got in May, only one had taken the first dose Astrazeneca jab, which shows that the vaccines  can save lives”.
Filani stated that the two suspected cases of cholera disease recorded  in Ilejemeje and Moba Local governments are being given adequate treatment to avert preventable deaths in the state.
“Immediately we heard about this, our team of experts swung into action. We collected the samples and ensured that the cases are being observed carefully and given the best of treatment”, he said
