The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Zubairu Dada has pledged maximum support and cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU between the Voice of Nigeria, VON, and the Tanzanian Broadcasting Cooperation, TBC.
Ambassador Dada said the cooperation between the two African countries and their Broadcasting agencies will lead to African telling stories their own ways by themselves.
He made the pledge when he received a delegation from the Tanzanian Broadcasting Cooperation led by the Tanzanian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Benson Alfred Bana and the Director-General of the Tanzanian Broadcasting Cooperation, Dr. Ayub Rioba Chacha in his office in Abuja.
The Foreign Minister said Africa must be able to tell its story by itself otherwise different people will say it in a different way and manner.
According to Ambassador Dada Africa must be able to break the artificial boundaries created by the colonialists through effective and coordinated communications.
He recalled in the 60’s when as a young man, him and his peers were looking up to the people like the late Julius Nyerere, Kwameh Nkrumah, Kenneth Kaunda and other Pan Africanists for direction.
The Minister therefore stressed the need for all African countries to work together to realize the dreams of the continent founding fathers.
The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria,VON,  Chief Osita Okechukwu said the station which broadcast in five major World languages including Swahili will collaborate with the Tanzanian Broadcasting Cooperation to improve its broadcast in the language.
He said parts of the provision of the MoU between the two broadcasting outfits include staff exchange as well as cooperation in news and programming.
The Tanzanian High Commissioner to Nigeria Dr. Benson Alfred Bana stated that bilateral ties between Nigeria and Tanzania dates back to 1960 shortly after Independence of both nations.
He described Nigeria not only as giant of Africa but a role model to Tanzania and the rest of Africa.
Ambassador Bana said the two countries have taken their relationship to another level that include economic diplomacy.
He cited the establishment of the Dangote Cement company and other Nigerian investments such as UBA and GTbank in Tanzania as a good example of the economic diplomacy.
The Director General of the Tanzanian Broadcasting Cooperation, TBC, Dr Ayub Rioba Chacha who expressed sadness over the death of Pan African News Agency said Africa still rely on Western Media for information.
He said the cooperation between his agency and the Voice of Nigeria will be very beneficial to both countries and Africa at large.
