Leadership of United Patriots party
has expressed serious concerns about what they described as wrongful exclusion of their party’s successful Candidates (who emerged at Party primaries) from the list of Candidates recently released by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for Jigawa, Kaduna and the FCT elections.
According to the party, the alleged wrongful exclusion confirms the resolve by Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu – led INEC to further disenfranchise many Nigerian youths who have chosen to participate in the scheduled elections under the United Patriots.
The National Chairman of United Patriots (UP), Barr. Chukwudi Ezeobika, Stated this in a statement released Thursday on behalf of the party and made available to Nigerian Pilot.
According to Barr. Ezeobika, “Mr. Murtala Mustapha who emerged as the Candidate for Gwaram federal Constituency election of Jigawa State and Mr. Hamza Dauda who emerged as the Party’s Candidate for Sabon-Gari House of Assembly election of Kaduna State, had their names excluded from the list of Candidates published by INEC.
“Furthermore, Mr. Jezhi Mathew who emerged as the Party’s Candidate for the FCT Chairmanship election together with Mr. Solomon Zahun Moses and Mr. Jude Danjuma who also emerged as Candidates for the Abuja Municipal Area Council and Bwari Area Council Councillorship
positions respectively, were also wrongfully excluded from the list of Candidates published by INEC.”
The party’s national chairman insisted that “the exclusion of these Candidates (who emerged as the Party’s Candidates from our Primaries) from these scheduled elections has once more brought to bear, the continued executive recklessness by Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu – led INEC in flouting valid and subsisting judgements of Courts especially that of the Court of Appeal delivered on the 10th of August 2020, which invalidated the deregistration of our great Party (United Patriots) together with 21 other political parties.”
He continued saying, “The decision by INEC to wrongfully exclude United Patriots from these by-elections of Jigawa and Kaduna States as well as the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections of the FCT, will void the entire process and render the outcome of these elections null as INEC has wilfully chosen to undermine the integrity of our Courts.
The legal expert averred that “By refusing to relist United Patriots (UP) together with 21 other political parties as ordered by the Court of Appeal in APPEAL NO. CA/ABJ/CV/507/2020, ACD & 21 ors AND Attorney General Federation & INEC and for failing to list Candidates who emerged from our Party to contest in elections, Prof. Yakubu Mahmoud is clearly seen to be in contempt of Court.
“In view of the foregoing, the Leadership of United Patriots shall take the necessary legal steps to curb this executive recklessness and give teaming Nigerian youths, the opportunity to lead and also be in government,” he concluded.
