Fans of Mirror’s Anson Lo are celebrating the pop idol’s big day with free Star Ferry rides for the public and a charity pop-up store.
Ansonlohonting International Fan Club announced on its Instagram page that all rides on Star Ferry’s Central-Tsim Sha Tsui route will be free for the whole day on July 7 (Thursday), which is Lo’s birthday.
“[The fan club] hopes to use [Lo’s] birthday and this Free Ride Day to send Hongkongers an authentic and down-to-earth gift and spread positive energy in the time of the pandemic,” it said.
From June 27 (today) to July 10, there are also plenty of Instagram-worthy spots with decor featuring the Ossan’s Love Hong Kong actor at the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier for fans to take photos with.
An LED billboard near the ferry pier is also playing Lo’s latest dance hit, “King Kong”, from now to July 7 from 8am to 11pm.
As part of the Anson Lo & Sontos Giving Day, fans of the Megahit singer — more commonly known as Sontos — are also organizing a pop-up store in Langham Place.
All net proceeds will go to 10 charities including Paws United Charity, House of Joy and Mercy, Green Sense and Helping Hand.
Lo, who often shares photos of his dog Amber, is known to be a big animal lover.
His fans have also organized a campaign to raise funds for the Rottnest Foundation in Australia, which supports quokka conservation and research.
Lo once posted photos of himself imitating the small short-tailed wallaby.
Separately, his overseas fans have also organized a range of events and charity campaigns to celebrate his big day.
They include a blood donor day by UK fans, a dance event to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities by Australian fans, shoreline cleanups by Canadian fans, food donation drive by Singaporean fans and a fireworks event by Japanese fans.
The latest celebration efforts also continue a trend of Mirror fans spending large amounts to promote their idols and give back to their communities.
