THE Director-General of Nigeria Immigration Services, NIS
, Muhammad Babandede has warned that the era of god ‘fathers has gone for good and that the present system does not recognize the presentation of high-profile notes or calls for special postings or favours.
He noted that, if anyone dares to engage anybody to lobby on the personnel behalf for any favours including staff deployment, be assured that such
documents/incidences shall be recorded in their Secret Registry file.
NIS Boss said training of personnel especially on Information Communication Technology, ICT, is his cardinal objective.
“It is important that I remind you about the great revolutions we are making in the Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT)
arena that is currently demanding that all members of the workforce make diligent efforts to be 1CT-savvy to not only remain relevant in our operations but also be able to deepen their individual development.”
The NIS Boss while speaking at the passing out parade of the 46 superintendent basic courses at the immigration training school, Kano today said upon assumption of duty prioritized human capacity development and infrastructural upgrade and the results of the efforts have remained massive over the years.
Muhammad Babandede also explained that it is in line with their understanding that training and retraining efforts are critical to bringing about the best productivity from any workforce.
“We shall continue to do
this within the limits of our resources to ensuring that we deliver a very professional migration management agency to the nation.”
He said hence forward, the Office of the Comptroller General and those of the deputy Comptrollers General will no longer attend to physical/hard copy mails and files except they are transmitted electronically.
According to Babandede, the implication was that as the personnel return to their Commands and Formations, they will discover soon that, except they deliberately upgrade their ICT skill sets, it will struggle to fit into the new operations’
“This, therefore, demands deliberate investment in skills upgrades for the workforce and trainings such as you have received here in the last few months are pointers to great things ahead. Plans are underway to pursue sincere ICT hands-on training for members of the workforce.
“As you pass out today, you need to be reminded that ours is a disciplined Service that has zero tolerance for poor and unprofessional conducts. Our consequence management mechanism remains hugely very rewarding for demonstrated competence and resourcefulness and also very punitive for indolence and misconduct. Our Code of Conduct document was unveiled a few days ago, and we are determined to enforce compliance.”
He commented the Minister
of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who has remained a very dependable inspiration to the success story of the NIS.
DG Immigration, also appreciated the Kano State government and the robust relationship among sister’s security agencies in the State that has continued to impact positively on the stability, peace, and progress of the country.
Four hundred thirty, 430, Personnel graduated as those who undergone the Superintendent basic course, were nominated from various Commands and Formations following conversion to the Superintendent Cadre of the Service.
