FCDA co-operative society has called on the minister of FCT, Mallam Mohammed Musa Bello to consider a revenue waver over the ongoing 4.2 hectares of a private mass housing estate of the staffs housing of Federal Capital Development Authority Cooperative Society
, at Wassa District of Abuja.
Pilot reports that the Minister had recently granted a waiver of the sum of 9.8 million naira been the cost of building plan approval fee and the sum of 4.5 million nairas which was expended as compensation to the indigenous people affected by the construction.
The president of the co-operative society Dr. Hippolitus Chikwendu Onah who explained that the scheme is one of the greatest desires of a family to own a home in the territory noted that with the FCTA’s staff strength of over 27, 000 staff’s strength, “you will agree with me that many numbers of our colleagues within the staff structure would desire to have a hone of their own the FCT”
The president who commended the FCT Minister for granting the allocation free of charge to the cooperative society promised that the project would see the light of the day with two and half years as the completion years of the 404 housing unit, made up of 224 flats in one bedroom blocks of flats, 112 flats contained in two-bedroom block of flats and 68 flats contained in three-bedroom terraces, he said the project is expected to cause 1.5 billion, will surely be completed in 2023.
He said “the major challenge that has actually brought us here is the issue of poor accommodation for the FCDA staff and not only for FCDA staff but even the people living in the FCT who actually are staying in a place that is not actually befitting and many are squatting here and there and you can see the cause of accommodation in FCT is increasing on a daily basis. Because it is clear to everyone that FCT is mega a city and most people allover Nigerian wants to come to FCT.
“Many people that are coming into FCT are politicians, artisan and business people don’t have a place that can be affordable. And why we are embarking on this, is because privately developed estates are so exorbitant the average civil servant can not afford it. We are trying to see how we can internal ourselves general revenue that can help us develop this site and make it very affordable to our corporators.
“This is not the only site we have we have finished the project in Kubwa
in other to accommodate other people and very soon the FCT minister will going there to officially hand over the keys to them. We are also assuring that all facility is in place and affordable” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of OYI -MAG Nig LTD , RT. Hon. Chikwendu Kalu, however, assured the developers that contractors will commence the project soon as the project is commissioned, adding that the contractors will do there best to ensure they met up with the given date by the authorities.
” And like we pointed out it is a technical team affairs. We will really be involved to manitor the progression exercise. because ordinary we really ready”
Also speaking, the Managing Director, KAMENI KONSULT and SAMGIRO Nig. LTD, engr. Uche Banna, stressed that “the project is estimated to be a mini City and every thing is encompassing as you can actually stay here and manage your resources and your life.
“What we are doing here is affordability and creating a solid structure that is comfortable and flexible payment plan for the off takers to mat up with”
The representative of the traditional ruler of the Madalla community, Samuel Audu who welcome the development in the area, said that the coming of this scheme will go a long way in reducing the suffering of the community members. He further assured the FCT Administration of their usual corporation and support.
