Former centre-back Rio Ferdinand has explained why he believes former Manchester United winger Daniel James was not up to the standard required to play for the club.
James sealed a transfer deadline day exit from Old Trafford on Tuesday, joining Leeds, who had been minutes away from signing him back in January 2019, in a £25million deal.
Although he started last Sunday’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, the Wales international was unlikely to be guaranteed regular game time at Old Trafford because of the return of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Vying for opportunities on the right-wing alongside the likes of Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood, it soon became clear that an exit was probably best for everyone involved at this point in James’ career.
