Federal Government has assured that it will continue to accord priority to the welfare and wellbeing of workers in the country, to boost their productivity and ensure a virile workforce.
The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan disclosed this at the commissioning of ‘Welfare House,’ a welfare facility consisting of a staff canteen, clinic, and gymnasium for civil servants on Wednesday in Abuja.
The facility was built through the Private Public Partnership, PPP, involving the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and some construction firms leveraging on their Corporate Social Responsibility.
Speaking at the event, the HOS noted the feat is a good example of how the Organized Private Sector should partner with the government in order to ensure a seamless development of the country
“Today’s commissioning is what I would like to refer to as a comprehensive staff welfare facility, health and physical fitness needs of personnel beyond regular working hours.
“Apart from being a trailblazer, it is an initiative that would serve as a model for other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAS) to emulate,” she said.
The Head of Service further said the initiative was in sync with the aspiration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to provide a conducive work environment for a more productive and efficient workforce.
She disclosed that her Office has embarked on a number of reform programs to increase the morale and welfare of civil servants during and after service.
“If we’re accountable like this, the private sector would be more than willing to support us in other endeavors,” she added.
In his remarks, the Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu noted that the ministry has met the recommendations of the World Health Organisation, WHO, and International Labour Organisation, ILO on the provision of the welfare facility for the workforce.
