With the deadline for voter registration nearing, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has a welcome announcement for at least one segment of the population: Voters who failed to vote in two consecutive elections may soon reactivate their registration online.

The announcement was made by COMELEC Commissioner Rowena Guanzon on Facebook, though details have yet to be published on official COMELEC channels. According to the commissioner’s post, 6.3 million voters have been deactivated, though their registration details—including biometrics—remain in the COMELEC database.

Deadline for registration is on September 30, and Guanzon has said that there will be no extension of this deadline.

Registration is currently suspended in areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), including the National Capital Region.
