Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan looked to Real Madrid this summer in an attempt to bolster their squads ahead of the new season.
The Italians extended Brahim Diaz’s loan spell at the club, but both sides showed strong interest in Marco Asensio.
The Spanish international decided against a move to either club, however, as he looks to focus on cementing a place in Real Madrid’s starting eleven after a period on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.
Asensio is now in his sixth season in the Spanish capital and is determined to get back to the performance levels he showed two years ago before injury struck.

There is stiff competition in the forward areas at Real Madrid, with Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard and Vinicius Junior all jostling to be selected by head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Real Madrid are therefore working to move Asensio into the centre of the pitch, where the side have less options, which could work well for all parties.
Asensio was key in Spain’s run to the final of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, which is a sign that he is on track to regaining his form.
