Do you remember the sad tale of an Indonesian man whose pet arowana was cooked by his father? Similar tragedy struck a little more than a year later, this time involving a woman who decided to fry her husband’s pet fish because the man couldn’t be bothered to clean its tank.

The woman, Mia Kurniawan, showed her cooking the prized fish on TikTok yesterday, an act she described as a form of protest against her husband. According to Mia, she had been telling her husband to clean the arowana’s tank to no avail.

“This is because my husband kept promising to clean the aquarium after I told him to, therefore I did it myself. However, the fish got sick in the end. I thought it would be delicious if I fried it,” the caption on Mia’s video reads.

And so she did. Mia proceeded to clean the prized pet fish, scaled, seasoned, and fried it, as you can see in the TikTok video below, which has been viewed more than 3.9 million times at the time of writing (beware: not for the faint-hearted arowana lovers):

In more recent TikToks responding to comments on the original video, Mia said that her husband was sad at first, but has since been able to laugh off his wife killing their pet fish. Unlike some fish hobbyists that we know, he also seems to prize his wife above the arowana, as he said that he wasn’t angry at Mia.

At this point, we can only hope that no more arowanas fall victim to the frying pan of their owner’s families.
