Katsina State government has donated additional nine Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to help security operatives in the fight against banditry and terrorism in the State.

Speaking at the handover of the vehicles to the Army during a ceremony at the Government House on Tuesday, Governor Aminu Bello Masari said that, “the Armoured Personnel Carriers are part of efforts by the state government to support security agencies in the fight against banditry and terrorism in the frontline local government areas.

“In continuation with this, we are now working with the Inspector-General of Police and also our local producers to produce more APCs.

“With these nine APCs, we now have over 30 APCs in Katsina State together with Police, I’m sure we over 30 APCs in Katsina and more are still needed in order to confront the bandits who are equally becoming more sophisticated and daring.

“Alongside this, we are working on the social aspect of it, giving relief for those who are badly affected by the activities of bandits across the state,” Masari said.

He said soon the menace of banditry and terrorism will be a thing of the past as he lauded the efforts of security personnel and the media in the fight against the terrorism.

The United Nations Development Programme and Katsina State government also provided communication tracking software in tackling the insecurity situation in the area.

A UNDP Conflict and Political Economy Specialist, Ashraf Usman, described the UNDP as an advocate of prevention and preventive conflict in crime.

“The UNDP is happy to see this initiative by the state government, to enhance communication to help the government. We are happy to support that and to see development in that regard,” he said.
