British boxer Fabio Wardley has hinted that fellow British boxer Anthony Joshua will ease his way past Oleksandr Usyk, which will open up the door for a fiercely anticipated clash against Tyson Fury.

Joshua and Fury had planned to go toe-to-toe this month in Saudi Arabia but the bout was postponed after an American judge ruled Deontay Wilder has the right to a rematch against the Gypsy King.

Both British fighters now face a final hurdle before they can cast their eyes towards a clash against one another, with Fury set for a trilogy clash against Wilder in Las Vegas on October 9th.

Meanwhile, Joshua will face mandatory challenger Usyk in north London on September 25th at Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium.

While Fury’s clash with Wilder may be a tight affair, that’s not expected to be the case for Joshua – with Wardley the latest to back the former Olympic champion for an easy fight against the Ukrainian, who has only just moved up to heavyweight level.

“He [Oleksandr Usyk] has not pulled off the best performances since he’s been in the heavyweight division, so to then jump in with someone like Joshua, it’s quite a big leap,” he said on the BetFred TV Boxing Show.

“Not to say that Usyk doesn’t have the experience to deal with that but just going off what we have seen, that is where I’d edge it. I think he’s found that adjusting period into the heavyweight slightly more difficult than he initially anticipated.”
