Nasarawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has kicked against the cost of nomination fees imposed on all aspirants for the forthcoming local government election by the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC.

The October 6 Local Government Chairmanship and Wards Councillorship election in the state is expected to be conducted in13 local government councils and the 147 electoral wards.

Reacting to the high cost of the nomination fees, Chairman of Nasarawa PDP, Hon. Francis Orogu, appealed to the NASIEC to urgently reconsider the downward review of the fees in the interest of the people of the state.

“We as a Party are passionately calling on the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) to drastically review downwards, the amounts for the purchase of nomination forms for chairmanship and councillorship positions.

“This is because the common masses most especially the youths and women who are passionate to contest are finding it very difficult to afford such exorbitant sums of five hundred thousand(N500,000.00) and two hundred thousand naira (N200,000.00) respectively to obtain these forms from NASIEC as a mandatory condition to contest in the forthcoming LGC Elections.

“The PDP wishes to also draw the attention of the Nasarawa State Governor, Egnr. AA Sule, to speak to the State Revenue Board to review the high rate of charges slammed on candidates for the Tax Identification Number (TIN).  The charges are unexplainably outrageous and thoughtless, considering the current skyrocketing rate of poverty and joblessness in the State and the country at large.

“As a party, we wish to call on the attention of the Chairman Traditional Council of Chiefs in Nasarawa state, HRH. Justice Mohammed Sidi Bage (Rtd), to advise some of the traditional rulers who have become instruments of some political parties in intimidating, interfering, and threatening candidates who are not their favorites, to desist from being partisan in the ongoing party primaries and the forthcoming local government elections, by upholding their values, sacred heritage and cultural integrity of the Traditional Institution.

“This is because sooner or later these Royal Fathers and their agents who are openly participating and interfering in inter and intra party politics will not only attract gross disrespect but drag to disrepute the integrity of our sacred traditional institutions.”

Meanwhile, the PDP chairmanship and councillorship candidates, party faithful well as the teaming supporters of the party have been encouraged by the state chairman to remain resolute, focused, and determined as they prepare towards victory at the polls.

“We wish to reassure you of our readiness and commitment towards protecting your votes/mandates. We are ready as long as NASIEC provides a level playground.”
