Bayern Munich has reportedly submitted a bid for Manchester City for the club’s left-back Joao Cancelo.
The news was reported by the Athletic top correspondent, David Ornstien who confirmed the news on Monday, January 30th, 2023. Cancelo has had limited game time since the start of this season (2022/23).
The Portuguese who can play on the right or left side of the defence as well as midfield has fallen down the pecking order under Guardiola. Players like Nathan Ake, John Stones, Kyle Walker and now academy graduate Rico Lewis all preferred ahead of Cancelo.
He is currently under contract at the Etihad until 2027 and he is expected to join Bayern before the end of the January transfer window on a loan deal.
Cancelo was named in the last two PFA Premier League Team of the Year. He was a key part of City’s victory last season in the Premier League playing 36 out of 38 games.
