PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s manufacturing sales grew 1.9% year-on-year in July 2020 to RM119.3 billion, driven by the increase in food, beverages & tobacco products (24.9%), transport equipment & other manufactures products (14.3%) and electrical & electronics products (8.4%).
Chief statistician Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said on a monthly basis, the sales value increased 2.1%. Sub-sectors that supported the month-on-month growth were transport equipment & other manufactures products (11.8%), non-metallic mineral products, basic metal & fabricated metal products (8.0%) and electrical & electronics products (3.9%).
He added that the total employees engaged in the manufacturing sector in July 2020 was 2.19 million persons, a decrease of 2.4% as compared to 2.25 million persons in July 2019.
Salaries & wages paid in July 2020 amounted to RM7.09 billion, a 3.2% as against the same month of the preceding year. Simultaneously, the sales value per employee rose by 4.5% to RM54,403 as compared with the same month in 2019. Meanwhile, the average salaries & wages per employee was RM3,235 in July 2020.
