Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Dr Abubakar Ahmed Audi has stated that its Management will not condone unruly behaviour and other acts of indiscipline capable of damaging the image of the Corps and putting it to disrepute.

Audi stated this yesterday during the opening of the First Commandant General’s Conference for the year 2023 held at the NSCDC Headquarters in Abuja.

He said that the Management equally frowned at acts which bothers on truancy, and tardiness thereby charging officers to have a change of attitude to work as the Corps will not hesitate to sanction any officer for any act which bothers on indiscipline/misconduct.

He emphasized on the need to focus more attention on intelligence gathering as a proactive measure adding that the Management was perfecting arrangement to introduce series of training and capacity building programmes on surveillance and intelligence gathering for the Corps personnel to sharpen their skills and competencies to further add bite to their operational capabilities.

“In addition, we have embarked on massive equipment drive to further boost the capacity of the Corps personnel.

“In fulfilment of its mandate, the Corps has already set up an Armed Unit known as Safe School Special Response Squad, SSSRS, to ensure proper protection of schools across the Country. To further enhance the operations of this new Squad, the existing Rapid Response Squad and the Female Squad have been collapsed into this Squad. The new Squad will undertake regular patrol and response to distress calls from schools and the host communities and their duties has been clearly spelt out in the Standard Operating Procedure, SOP.

“Let me however, remind you that the challenge ahead of us in the face of emerging security threats occasioned by the criminal activities of bandits, terrorist, kidnappers, farmers/herders clashes among others is quite enormous. Let me further remind you of our role in checkmating the activities of these outlaws, and the need to add bite to our operations to effectively tackle the new dimension of organized crimes for a safe and secure Nigeria.”

The NSCDC boss charged the officers to redouble their efforts and remain resolute to avowed commitment to extinguish the flame of insecurity and make the environment unsafe and unconducive for criminal elements and those with criminal tendencies.

He commended the efforts of the Officers in directing and effectively coordinating the Corps various operational activities especially before, during and after the 2023 General elections.

The CG tasked the Corps to collaborate effectively and maintain cordiality with relevant stakeholders, to effectively tackle the emerging security situation in the country.

Speaking on the safe school initiative, he also stated that to guarantee safety in the school environment, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning has rolled out its Implementation Strategies of the National Safe School Plan with the Corps assigned the role of the Lead Agency cognizant of its lead role in the protection Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, CNAI.

Audi on Anti-Vandal And Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Monitoring he restated that the Corps has intensified patrol, monitoring and surveillance of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, CNAI, in all its formations across the Country including the Federal Capital Territory to guard against violent attacks, vandalization, oil theft and sabotage.

Adding that the Corps has continued to record successes in the area of anti-vandalism and protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.

Furthermore, the Commandant General who explained that Staff welfare essentially covers services necessary for the overall wellbeing of staff and the Corps assured that the Management was fully committed and will therefore stop at nothing to ensure that the wellbeing and interest of staff was respected and considered at all times.

He added that the Corps will however continue to ensure that the entitlements of personnel who suffer injuries or lose their lives in line of duty were duly and adequately compensated as and when due also promising to take care of their needs and ensure the payment of the necessary benefits to the next of kin of our late personnel.
