The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Samuel Adeniran Taiwo has said the establishment of its Climate Change Division under the Department of Geodesy, is helping his office to generate weather data which will enhance the precision of daily weather forecasts.
Head of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Abu Michael in a statement said the achievement of OSGoF is expected to boost measures being taken by the government to always ensure the safety of lives and property, especially from weather-related disasters.
In his brief at the management meeting of OSGoF held recently, the Head of the Department, Surv. Pius Adedayo Omoshowon explained that with the number of Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) positioned in various parts of the country streaming highly reliable data, OSGoF was capable of generating accurate data for weather projection in the country.
He said with the facility at the Climate Change Division of the Geodesy Department, “We can have localized predictions of weather in states of the country. With precision, we can predict whether or change of weather under microsecond”.
Thrilled by this development, the Surveyor-General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Samuel Adeniran Taiwo, who after the management meeting was conducted around the Climate Change facility by Surv. Omoshowon expressed the need for synergy with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and other relevant authorities in order to improve forecast generally.
The SGoF maintained that OSGoF was committed to providing requisite geospatial needs to help MDAs increase on their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) noting that OSGoF is well-positioned to fulfill its mandate.
Surv. Taiwo used the occasion to disclose an ongoing arrangement with OSGoF to further improve the operations of the aviation authorities.
He expressed hope that OSGoF collaboration with MDAs would definitely impact the nation’s system for the common good of the people.
