The South American body has urged FIFA to apply the Article 5 law on these clubs to enforce the restriction for five days, according to reports from Sky Sports on Wednesday, September 7th, 2021. If the governing body enacts this law, it means the players will miss this weekend’s games and Champions League games on Tuesday.

The players who were not released by these clubs are Raphinha of Leeds United, Manchester United’s Fred, Chelsea’s Thiago Silva, Manchester City’s Ederson and Gabriel Jesus and Alisson, Roberto Firmino, and Fabinho from Liverpool.

According to Article 22 of the FIFA Constitution of its Disciplinary Code, the sanctions that may be applied if clubs restrict their players from representing their countries include fines and forfeiting the match 3-0.
