Nicholas Sean Purnama, the eldest son of former Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, has filed a defamation suit against a woman who accused him of assault, his lawyer confirmed.

Ahmad Ramzy, Nicholas’ lawyer, said this morning that the lawsuit was filed after categorically denying that his client assaulted the woman, an influencer and luxury cars showroom employee named Ayu Thalia.

“I filed the complaint last night with the North Jakarta Police,” Ahmad told reporters this morning.

Under the Criminal Code (KUHP), defamation is punishable by up to four years in prison.

The lawsuit came after Nicholas gave a 24-hour ultimatum for Ayu to publicly apologize for accusing him of assault. The apology never came.

The Penjaringan Precinct in North Jakarta said that the assault charge against Nicholas was filed on Aug. 27, detailing an incident that allegedly took place at a renowned luxury car showroom in the district.

As seen in a leaked complaint document, Ayu claimed that she and Nicholas — who were hinted at having a romantic history — had an argument in his car.

“The perpetrator told me I broke his heart and he did not wish to see me again, and the perpetrator pushed me out of the car, after which I fell and got injured,” Ayu claimed in the complaint, later showing on social media that she had scraped her legs from the fall.

Through Ahmad, Nicholas denied the accusation, implying that Ayu lied about getting pushed out of the car and that CCTV footage from the showroom could prove it.

“He never assaulted or pushed Ayu out of the car,” Ahmad said.

“Ayu exited the car on her own and she deliberately let herself fall.”

But if Ayu’s account of the incident were to be true, then Nicholas may face up to 2 years and 8 months in prison for assault.
