Thailand on Thursday reported 2,208 new COVID-19 infections and 43 deaths, bringing the total tally to 187,538 cases and 1,375 fatalities since the pandemic began.

Last month, several fresh markets throughout Bangkok and its metro area were ordered shut after hundreds of new coronavirus infections were traced to them.

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that there were at least 310 people in Soi La Lai Sap tested positive for COVID-19. In fact, Bangrak District Office on late afternoon Thursday said there were 13 people contracted the virus. We regret the error.
