NFF and NIKE strategise on next kits set

State Football Association chairmen from the South-South region in Nigeria has rejected plans by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to conduct elections into the Delta State Football Association.

The FA chairmen made their position known through a letter signed by four of the 6 chairmen to the general secretary of the NFF, Mohammed Sanusi on September 9, 2020, ahead of the September 15, 2020, elections in Asaba, the Delta state capital.

The NFF has refused to recognize the Edema Fuludu led-DFA board duly elected on June 13, 2019, and consequently set up a normalisation committee to oversee the affairs of the FA.

The chairmen from Delta, Cross Rivers, Edo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states raised eight points to counter the elections which they argue is not in line with the current football statutes.

“Sequel to the recent notification by a normalization committee making the rounds in the electronic and print media that Delta State football Association will be conducting an election slated for 15th September 2020 in Asaba Delta.

The south-south zone, football association chairmen hereby reiterate that they will not recognize any election conducted by the illegal normalization committee set up by the executive committee of the NFF on the 15th day of January 2020.

That the use of the normalization committee to run the affairs of an affiliate body or conduct its elections is alien to the Statutes of the NFF.

That normalization committee can only become part of our laws if it is adopted by the congress of the NFF, which is the only organ in the NFF with the powers to amend or alter the statute of the NFF.

Since Congress has not adopted the use of normalization committee in our Statutes, the action of the executive committee of the NFF in setting-up a normalization committee to conduct fresh elections in Delta state is unsupportable and amounts to the executive committee of the NFF arrogating to itself the powers of congress.

Recall that we wrote to NFF through your office, precisely on the 30th of December 2019 after our meeting at Ikot Ekpene Akwa Ibom State on the 29th of December 2019 to resist any attempt to truncate the elected board of the Delta state football association led by Edema Fuludu,” read part of the letter.

The FA chairmen said the NFF should have set up an arbitration panel in accordance with the law which unfortunately they have refused to do nine months after.
