Environmental officers rescued an injured female sperm whale who was found stranded in Maitum, Sarangani province earlier this week, DENR Soccksargen said on Facebook.

Fishermen first spotted the two-meter whale who was weak and wounded, according to the Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) in Kiamba, Sarangani.

CENRO staff provided medical aid to the whale while the provincial veterinarian was on the phone, the DENR Soccksargen’s Facebook post read.

“The rescued whale is still under observation and will be released back to the wild once it recovers and regains strength,” DENR wrote.
